DR3: Rethinking Architecture (Disaster Risk Reduction, Resilience, and Recovery)

Natural and human disasters have profound impacts on communities worldwide, often resulting in significant loss of life, property, cultural heritage, increased social vulnerabilities, and humanitarian crises. This conference aims to bring together architects, built environment professionals, practitioners, and researchers to explore innovative approaches to disaster risk reduction, resilience-building, and recovery strategies. Through the theme of DR3, the conference seeks to foster multidisciplinary dialogue that rethinks the roles of architecture and the built environment in creating safer and more resilient communities before, during, and after disasters.

Relevant topics include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Innovative architectural solutions for disaster-resistant structures

Review Process

  • Review Type: Double-blind peer review and will be conducted after the conference.
Publication
  • Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings
  • Selected papers will be published in the IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science (EES), subject to additional publication fees

Paper Presentation Mode

DR3 Aceh 2026 will be conducted in physical mode only, taking place at Hermes Palace Hotel, Banda Aceh, Indonesia, from 17–19 April 2026. The three-day conference programme includes plenary sessions, site visits to the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami ground zero, visits to emergency evacuation shelters, engagements with disaster-affected communities, workshops, exhibitions, networking dinner, official audience with the authorities of Banda Aceh, and paper presentation sessions.

The objective of the conference is to bring together practitioners, researchers, and disaster-affected communities for direct engagement; hence, the event will be held exclusively in physical format.

Authors Unavailable To Attend

For authors who do not wish to attend or present physically, but would like to submit papers for review by our International Scientific Committee for publication in the DR3 Aceh 2026 conference e-proceedings, selection to the Nakhara Journal, and Scopus-indexed IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science (IOP EES / Nakhara journal publication subject to additional fees), the registration fee shall still apply per paper submitted.

During the registration and payment process on our website, authors may select either “Attending” or “Not Attending” accordingly.

Authors Attending In Person With More Than One Accepted Paper

Authors who have more than one accepted paper and are attending the conference in person (lead authors) will be entitled to a 50% reduction on the registration fee for each consecutive paper, provided that the same author presents all accepted papers. This subsidy is granted by the Organising Committee in support of the conference objectives.

In the event of non-attendance, the subsidy shall be revoked and publication of the affected paper(s) will be withheld until the outstanding balance has been fully settled. For papers with multiple authors, additional authors attending in person will still be required to pay the full registration fee.

Registration & Fees

The registration deadline for authors (whether attending in person or submitting papers for publication only) is 3 April 2026, at 11:59 PM Indonesian Time (GMT +7). During the registration via our website, authors may select either “Attending” or “Not Attending” accordingly.

For students, IAI members, and PAM members, a valid supporting document (student ID card, membership card, or official membership certificate) indicating the validity of their status as of April 2026 must be uploaded during registration to verify eligibility for the discounted rate. Please note that in the event of submission of a fraudulent document, the fee paid shall be forfeited, and the publication of the corresponding paper will be cancelled.

Invitation Letters For Visa Application, Etc.
